Abstract
The modified asymptotic description of Gaussian pulse propagation in a linear, causally dispersive dielectric asserts, in accordance with classical asymptotic methods of analysis, that as the rise-time of the input Gaussian envelope is decreased below the medium relaxation time the propagated field separates into two distinct pulses due to the appearance of electromagnetic transients that are characteristic of the dispersive medium.
