Abstract

Optical switching using distributed feedback (DFB) structures has been demonstrated by several authors using a wide variety of materials.1 The use of SiGe has been hindered by difficulty in growing defect free material. However, the development of SiGe optical structures will enable traditional Si electronics to be integrated with these novel SiGe components to make silicon based optoelectronic integrated circuits (OEIC).
