A theoretical and experimental analysis of active alignment based on singular value decomposition

Abstract

Alignment is a big problem for interconnecting two-dimensional optical sources and detectors in a system in which VCSEL arrays and photodetector arrays are used[1]. Real time active alignment techniques will be important for realizing opto-electronic computing systems for example by using piezo actuators or other auto stages to compensate for vibrations in the environment (Fig. 1) [2],[3].
