Abstract
This paper discusses the three levels of software transparency achievable with write once optical disk drives. First, the unusual nature of write once optical drives is addressed to demonstrate why software is needed that is different than software used with magnetic disk drives. This is followed by a framework for viewing different solutions to write-once software issues. Finally, this framework is used to examine the three levels of software transparency achievable with write-once drives.
