Abstract
Applications for a low-loss, large-core, large-numerical-aperture fiber exist, for example, in computer data links and instrumentation. Plastic-clad fibers have been considered for this application. The capability for an index profile other than step is not present with plastic clad. Further, the numerical aperture of a plastic-clad fiber decreases with length because of differential attenuation effects.1
