Abstract
The measurement and characterization of optical fiber are major technical and economic concerns of both manufacturers and users. Substantial progress toward improving the quality and usefulness of measurements on multimode fiber has occurred in the last few years, although a few critical problems remain. The characterization of single-mode fiber remains a subject of substantial research. This session will cover fundamental measurement techniques with an emphasis on those emerging as standards for product specification.
