Abstract
A manufacturing process for a depressed clad single-mode fiber has been developed and introduced into mass production at the Western Electric Atlanta Works. This 125-μm diam fiber has a germania-doped silica core with depressed index phosphorus-fluorine-doped silica cladding.1 The design has been optimized to provide minimal chromatic dispersion near 1310 nm while maintaining a low-loss high-dispersion window at 1550 nm.2
