Abstract
Coating for optical fibers is generally performed by UV or thermal curing of organic material applied through a die: metal coating is performed the same way. Thin-film deposition methods have an advantage in the deposition of a uniform thin film around 1 μm. Sputtering and CVD coatings with an hermetic seal have already been studied.1,2 In the present work glow discharge polymerization of organic material and glow discharge CVD of carbon are investigated; and coating techniques for fibers by these methods are also investigated.
