Abstract
The use of noncoherent optics in signal processing applications can potentially provide high SNR and wide dynamic range operation. The filter described here operates on intensity modulated light to isolate a specific modulation frequency. In an rf spectrum analysis application, theory predicts that a dynamic range exceeding 60 dB (electrical) in a 10-MHz bandwidth is feasible.
