Abstract
Dynamic frequency shift or frequency chirping limits the transmission bandwidth of a single-mode fiber system, even if we employ a directly modulated dynamic-single-mode (DSM) laser.1 An external modulation technique is considered for the purpose of eliminating this problem, and some highspeed optical modulators such as those using an enhanced electroabsorption in a quantum well are being studied.2
