Abstract
Metal-type and plastic-type optical fiber connectors have been previously developed.1,2 On comparing the two types it is obvious that the metal connectors have the advantages of high performance and high reliability but the disadvantage of high production costs. Plastic-type connectors have the opposite inherent characteristics. Therefore, to achieve both advantageous characteristics in a ferrule, composite metal-plastic ferrules (MP) have been developed, as will be described.
