Abstract
A system architecture based on LiNbO3 devices that simultaneously provide unidirectional high-speed transmission and bidirectional low-speed transmission over one single-mode fiber is proposed and demonstrated. No source is required at the far end, and the light sources at the near end are unmodulated lasers that could be shared among several systems. Several experiments that demonstrate part of the functionality of this system have been previously described.1,2
