Abstract
For coherent communications high performance and economical polarization maintaining fibers (PMF) would be required, because such fibers enable the use of optical integrated circuits and optical amplifiers which are often sensitive to the state of polarization of the input signals1, and those PMFs preserve the coherence of light source over 200 or even 300 Km repeater spacing as expected in future. This paper describes the properties of the elliptical core type PMF which were fabricated by the combination of VAD and mechanical cutting method.
