Abstract
GaAs ICs are essential elements for multi-Gbit/s optical fiber communication systems as well as microwave and millimeter wave systems including measurement instrumentation systems. Various types of GaAs IC such as MUX/DEMUXs, laser drivers, pre-/ gain control-/main amplifiers, decision circuits, and broadband amplifier/mixers have been developed, and some are being used in 1.6/1.7/2.4-Gbit/s optical transmission systems. This paper reviews the recent progress of device and circuit technologies for high speed GaAs ICs optical communications and their future trends.
