Abstract

Five Gbit/s testbeds are currently under development to explore both network technology alternatives and the utility of Gbit/s rates for applications. While the testbeds all use single-mode fiber as the transmission medium, a number of different technologies are explored using the fiber. We focus primarily on the testbed physical architectures, with a discussion of testbed uses provided in Ref. 1.
