Abstract
Distortion in wide-band phase-sensitive signal-processing systems is introduced by phase shifters that nominally operate independently of frequency. With phased-array antennas, pulse distortion and undesirable shifting in the beam angle (beam squinting) are experienced when the instantaneous bandwidth is large or the frequency is changed. True-time-delay modulators (TTDM’s) properly introduce phase shifts that are linearly proportional to frequency and eliminate these errors.
