Abstract
In analog AM-FDM and FM-FDM optical video distribution systems, intermodulation distortion can severely impair the system performance. Although erbium-doped-fiber amplifiers (EDFA’s) are attractive for such systems, it was reported that second-order distortion is caused by the interaction between the frequency chirping of the directly modulated DFB laser and the wavelength-dependent gain of the EDFA.1,2 On the other hand, we showed by rate-equation analysis that the distortion generated in EDFA can cancel the distortion of a laser diode.3
