Abstract
Collimators composing a two-dimensional fiber array are required as input-output ports in free-space switching systems and are expected to be applied to optical computers, optical neural networks, and fiber-optics subscriber systems. We therefore propose a novel high-density (16 channels/mm2) collimator module consisting of a two-dimensional fiber array that uses microferrules and a planar microlens. The new collimator module has the following advantages:
