Abstract
Multiaccess bus and ring topologies (see, e.g., Ref. 1) are very attractive for high-speed multimedia integrated networking because the sequential arrangement of nodes permits many highperformance protocols to be implemented. However, these networks have limited capacity, and the node complexity is rather high. To overcome these problems, multichannel networks using local tunable-channel access (TCMA) have been proposed.2 In this paper a novel protocol based on an adaptive cycle mechanism suitable for these TCMA networks is described. The major advantages of this protocol are summarized below.
