Abstract
Hybrid multichannel AM/M-ary quandrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM) subcarrier-multiplexed video lightwave transmission systems are of great interest for analog/digital video distribution and trunking.1,2 These systems can deliver existing broadcast multichannel analog video services while allowing the delivery of new compressed digital video and data services in the 500 MHz–1 GHz band. Previously, the effects of multiple optical reflections have been investigated only in AM-VSB video lightwave transmission systems.3,4 Laser phase fluctuations are converted to intensity noise by interferometric phase-to-intensity noise conversion from multiple reflection points. In a typical transmission link, there are many potential reflection sources, such as fiber-optic splices, connectors, and couplers.
