Abstract
Polarization - mode - dispersion ( PMD ) has emerged as a critical issue in achieving high-performance, ≥10-Gbit/s/channel, optical transmission systems. PMD in a standard singlemode fiber is caused by time-varying random changes in the fiber’s birefringence and principle states of polarization.
