Abstract
Dispersion compensating fiber Bragg gratings provide an effective means of compensating for the dispersion of optical fibers. The implications that the non-ideal characteristics of a grating have on system performance are determined, for the most part, by the group delay ripple (GDR) of the grating response over the modulated signal bandwidth. In general, the GDR increases with the bandwidth of a grating due to the fabrication process.
