Abstract
As optical communication technologies reach access networks, various types of systems are being developed to fully utilize the optical fiber bandwidth. Dens WDM technologies in long-haul systems are being readily applied to metro-networks over the 1.5 µm communication window.1 As an alternative to DWDM, coarse WDM systems in the similar wavelength ranges have been proposed2 with much less complicated requirements for MUX/DEMUX and light sources. On the while, Giga bit Ethernet has been actively developed for LAN and MAN applications using optical signals in 0.8 µm, and 1.3 µm.3
