Abstract
Optical light sources that are capable of producing well-defined optical pulses at several tens GHz repetition rates will be required in future high-capacity and long-haul optical communication systems. Mode-locked (ML) semiconductor laser diodes (LD’s) are promising candidates for this purpose because of their small size, which is necessary for high repetition rates.
