Abstract
As the transmission and switching capacities in today’s network increase, network control becomes a formidable task. In single channel ring networks, bandwidth reservations were straightforward.2 However, in WDM packet switched ring networks maintaining a traffic balance over wavelengths adds a burden to the controller.3 When each packet is transferred over multiple wavelengths, the traffic is balanced at the physical layer and network control is almost as simple as in the single channel network.1,4
