A Grating Coupler With High Coupling Efficiency and Large Bandwidth for Silicon-on-Insulator Technology

Abstract

Conventional grating couplers show a tradeoff between low-loss and broadband operation. By using the interference of counter-propagating waves, we demonstrate a grating coupler design with a simulated coupling efficiency-1dB-bandwidth product of 77 nm.
