Abstract
In recent years, one of the most widespread applications of fiber-optic sensor technology has been the measurement of temperature.1 Although many successful designs have been published few ideas have been taken up commercially, and there still remains a need for a simple and inexpensive fiber-optic thermometer showing the well-known advantages of optical technology for such a sensor system. Many previous ideas require stringent optical adjustment or accurate intensity referencing to the input signal level, and these complexities can severely increase costs and limit accuracy.
