Abstract
This paper is an overview of the current progress of fiber-optic sensors (OFS) in Japan. Since the unique properties of OFS come from a combination of precise and reliable optical sensing and its optical signal processing, its application in the industrial field as well as in medical engineering has spread quickly in the last couple of years. The Japanese market for OFS and their instrumentation is expected to reach $100M by 1990 from $10M in 1982.
