Abstract
CVD method1is very useful for making low loss optical fibers. However, the penalty for this method is too low deposition rate to obtain sufficient thickness of homogeneous glass films to produce long length fibers. Therefore, this method is disadvantageous for commercial production of fibers. Moreover, when we produce optical fibers with doped silica cores, an index depression (dip) appears at the core center.
