Abstract

To find a minimum of the merit function describing the performance of an optical interference filter by exhaustive search, the following problem has to be solved: a set of m layer types which can be combined to form the filter is given. To identify a combination realizing an absolute minimum of the merit function by exhaustive search, the value of the merit function of all possible layer combinations comprising L layers has to be calculated and the one with the lowest value to be retained (for more details cf. ref. 1,2,3). Here we want to describe an implementation of the scheme which allows for considerable savings in computing time.
