Abstract
1. Publications1,2 showed that dielectric mirrors with special phase properties, the so-called chirped mirrors, can be successfully used to design femtosecond lasers with very short pulse duration. These publications caused a considerable interest to the design and theory of chirped mirrors. The original approach1 to the design of chirped mirrors was based on the refinement of a properly chosen starting design. A starting design was a multilayer mirror with monotonically varying layer thicknesses. An alternative approach3,4 based on the transmission line theory resulted in the analytic technique for the design of chirped mirrors.
