Abstract
A new gas filter correlation spectrometer, GASCOFIL, that can be used to sense scattered UV or visible sky light or thermal infrared emission has been developed and field tested. The instrument includes a microprocessor based data acquisition and signal processing system. GASCOFIL is a rugged portable field application instrument for measurment of column densities of specific molecular atmospheric pollutants. It simultaneously measures the irradiance in a narrow spectral bypass and the cross correlation of the irradiance spectrum with gas cell spectra for features in the bandpass of the system. The bandpass is adjustable from 0.14 to 9.5 microns by the selection of appropriate interference filters and detectors.
