Abstract
The next generation carbon monoxide mapper will be included in the GeoTropSat mission concept proposed by NASA Langley Research Center. The enabling technologies needed to produce the 2.3 μm carbon monoxide gas filter correlation radiometer ensure that this instrument shall be state of the art and capable of remotely producing high resolution global temporal and spatial variability of the tropospheric carbon monoxide concentrations. The improvements in the carbon monoxide data sets are possible with this proposed instrument as a result of the location in orbit, sensing wavelength, and the use of advanced technologies. The challenge is to produce this data set within a budget one third the size of those allocated to past remote sensing satellite missions.
