Abstract
Holographic recording based on mass transfer of inorganic nanoparticles doped in photopolymers is described. Through direct observations of the microscopic structure of recorded holograms as well as optical measurements of the phase shift between the light interference pattern and recorded holograms it is shown that holographic exposure causes nanoparticles to redistribute from the bright to the dark regions, giving the periodic alignment of nanoparticles for the formation of high contrast holograms. This phenomenon can also be used to optically fabricate a nonlinear photonic crystal structure. Numerical analysis shows that such a structure exhibits optical multi-stability behaviors.
