Abstract
Photosensitive glasses containing metal-ion-activated, quantum dot semiconductors such as ZnS:Cu+ have been developed. Exposure to UV or ionizing radiation (γ-ray) results in the generation of trapped electrons with a trap density of approximately 1018/cm3. The presence of such a high density of trapped charges in a transparent glass suggests a number of possible applications including optical storage and electro-optic modulation.
