Abstract
We have observed efficient second-harmonic generation (SHG) in ion-exchanged semiconductor doped glass (SDG) waveguides. Interest in nonlinearities of these waveguides arises from their potential application to all-optical integrated signal processing devices. Since the firstreport of these SDG waveguides in 1986,1 work has focused on third-order nonlinearities, with applications to optical switching and bistability.2-4 We extend this work to second-harmonic generation by using the recently discovered seeded preparation in SDG,5 and we study self-preparation in these waveguides.
