Abstract
Energy-state location in quantum-wire structures has been a subject of much interest. It is important to determine the shifts of the energy states in these higher confinement systems under external electric fields. In the theoretical work by Miller et al.,1 it has been concluded that the shifts of the energy states in infinite-barrier quantum wells and infinite-barrier quantum dots are identical if the widths in each structure are the same. This work furthers their work by comparing the energy shifts in finite-barrier quantum wells with those in finite-barrier quantum wires (either square or circular structures) at the same width.
