Abstract
Two-pulse photon-echo experiments on ruby, Er3+:YLiF4, and Er3+:LaF3 in high (10-50-kG) magnetic fields exhibit nonexponential photonecho decays. Experiments were conducted on at least two samples from each of these systems with different concentrations of optically active ions. Echoes were produced by gating a single-frequency (1-MHz) cw dye laser with two acousto-optic modulators in tandem. A photomultiplier tube, protected during the preparation pulses with either a Pockels cell or another acousto-optic modulator, was used to detect the echoes.
