Abstract
An NMK signal from a low-pressure gas (about 10 Torr) has not been observed on NMR spectrometers with a magnetic field of Tesla magnitude. We have greatly enhanced the low-pressure gas NMR signal on NMR spectrometers by spin-exchange optical pumping methods using linearly polarized laser radiation. Cs vapor was optically pumped to a high degree of electronic spin polarization with linearly polarized laser radiation, and then spin-exchange collisions between the Cs atoms and 129Xe caused sonne of this orientation to be transferred to 129Xe nuclei from Cs atoms.
