Abstract
Wave mixing in vapors can provide a highly efficient means of generating coherent UV radiation. Single-pass conversion efficiency may be significantly in excess of that of a nonlinear crystal over a limited tuning range with no damage limitations.1 Furthermore, aspects of atomic physics and coherent excitation may be explored with regard to both dipole and quadrupole allowed transitions.
