Abstract
Light continua of duration and polarization similar to the pump sources are generated when intense laser pulses pass through dielectric media.1 Weakly dispersive media with high stimulated Raman scattering threshold are favorable for the generation of smooth, broadband spectra. Light-continuum generation is most easily achieved under self-focusing conditions, for which the beam focusing provides the necessary high laser intensity.
