Abstract
When a dark optical soliton propagates through self-defocusing material, it modifies its refractive index, thereby creating an optical waveguide. It has been shown recently that this effect can be used to make various passive and active optical elements, including X and Y junctions, or waveguide couplers.1 When the light intensity used in soliton production is high, the refractive index change tends to saturate, thus strongly affecting the properties of the solitons.
