Abstract
The orientation, under the influence of an electric field, of the dipoles of chromophores embedded in polymer matrices is now a widely used poling technique for the preparation of noncentrosymmetric polymer materials. However, in many cases, the use of light to achieve such vectorial orderings would be advantageous from both basic and practical points of view.
