Abstract
Self trapping of low power light waves in nonlinear optical materials might lead to applications such as beam profile cleanup or optical beam steering. Potassium niobate (KNbO3) belongs Lo the oxygen-octahedra ferroelectrics with perovskite structure and has large electrooptical coefficients and strong photorefractive properties.1 It is therefore one of the most suitable materials for observing spatial solitons2 arising from the screening of drift and/or photogalvanic, currents. This work presents experimental and theoretical investigations of self- focusing and spatial sol lions in KNbO3 crystals.
