Abstract
The Ho:Tm laser performance has been characterized under a variety of conditions using an alexandrite laser to simulate diode laser pumping. Both Tm:Ho:YAG and Tm:Ho:YLF have been evaluated and compared. Tm concentration was kept nominally constant at 4 %. Laser rods of different length were evaluated. For a 1.5 % Ho concentration in YLF, with pump pulse of 200 µs, a slope efficiency as high as 50 % is obtained for 6 mm long crystal. In general higher slope efficiencies are achieved in Tm:Ho:YLF than in Tm:Ho:YAG.
