Abstract
Recent pump-probe experiments in noble metal nanoparticles showed that the subpicosecond dynamics of the surface plasmon resonance is strongly influenced by e-e interactions. We find that there is an important correction to the interband dielectric function which originates from a surface-plasmon-mediated d-hole decay. This mechanism depends strongly on the degree of 0D confinement and affects the optical dynamics close to the surface plasmon resonance. We discuss the experimental manifestations of this effect in the non-linear absorption spectrum of noble metal nanoparticles.
