Abstract

A metrology approach to be used in the control of the effects of structural deformations on the performance of a space-based astronomical interferometer has been devised. A multi-armed, image-plane interferometer with reflection optics has been assumed. It is assumed that the field of view will be small and that the science objects will be weak or extended so that blind pointing will be required. It is further assumed that the locations of the collecting apertures in the plane of the wavefront are sufficiently well determined by the spacecraft structure and do not require monitoring.
