Abstract
The spectroscopy of diphenylpolyenes, particularly the ordering and structure of the electronic excited states, is of interest because of the role that polyenes have in various photochemical and biological processes. These molecules have been studied vigorously for many years, both by steady-state measurements (1) and, more recently, by direct observation of the dynamics with high time resolution (2).
