Abstract
Mode-locked InGaAsP optical-fiber composite-cavity lasers are compact sources which are capable of generating short pulses at high repetition rates. All previously reported lasers of this type used a linear configuration [1]. Here we describe for the first time active mode-locking in an InGaAsP optical-fiber ring laser [2]. The ring configuration has several potential advantages such as immunity to external reflections, the ability to insert additional intra-cavity elements, and the possibility of constructing a colliding pulse laser.
