Abstract
We have studied the photochemical and photophysical events that occur upon excitation of two important biological molecules, bacteriorhodopsin (bR) and ligated hemoglobin (Hb) using a sub-picosecond resonance Raman flow technique. The laser is a Spectra Physics YAG laser which is compressed and frequency-doubled and which synchronously pumps a cavity-dumped dye laser. In this one-color technique, the transients observed are those appearing within the laser pulse of 700-800 fs.
